Dakota State Invite

(Madison, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender cross country teams ran at the Dakota State Invite Saturday in Madison, South Dakota. The women's team finished second behind individual winner Jen Kempers and the men placed third with Joel De Haan finishing in the top-10.

Dordt's women were second to a Morningside team that scored 37 points. Kempers completed the 5,000 meter course in a time of 17:46 and Steph Helmus and Tami Wieringa were fifth and sixth in times of 18:47 and 18:49 respectively. Sara Hanenburg was Dordt's fourth runner across the finish line in 21st place overall and Marne De Bruin was 23rd in 21:15.

Joel De Haan's time of 28:16 in the 8,000 meter race was good for eight place and Mark Eekhoff was 12th in 28:58. Devin Van't Hof was 18th and Josiah Luttjeboer was 20th in 29:07 and 29:16 respectively. Jon Trueblood was the final point earner for Dordt with a time of 29:59 and 27th place.

Dakota State won the men's race with Chris Heezen taking individual honors in 2:6:27. Places listed are overall places, not point places. 59 runners ran in the women's race and 69 men started the men's race. The race was run at the Madison Country Club under windy and warm conditions. The Dordt teams will travel to Yankton, South Dakota in two weeks for the Mount Marty Invite.
