(Blair, Nebraska) The Dordt College women's and men's cross country teams ran at the Great Plains Athletic Conference championships on Saturday, October 28 at Blair, Nebraska. The Defender women place sixth with a total of 162 points, seven points out of fifth place and the Defender men were 9th with 214 points, 13 points out of 8th place. Nebraska Wesleyan swept the event, winning the men's race with 37 points, placing four runners in the top ten and all seven of their runners in the top 20. The Wesleyan women finished 1-2-3 and also had vour runners in the top seven and seven in the top 19.
The Defender women had two runners, Jen Kempers and Tami Wieringa earn all-GPAC honors with Kempers placing fourth in a time of 19:21.39 and Wieringa taking 12th in 19:49.54. Joel De Haan took all-conference honors in the men's division with a 7th place finish of 26:54.72. The top-15 runners in both divisions are accorded all-conference accolades. The sixth place finish by the Defender women bettered their performance at last year's meet by two spots with the men finishing in the same spot as last year's squad.
The women's race was 5,000 meters and the men 8,000. Dordt College will send both teams on to the NAIA Region III championships this Saturday, November 4 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
