Dordt College JV Women's Basketball vs. Morningside

December 2, 2013

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt Defender women’s junior varsity lost a seven-point halftime lead and fell to the Morningside Mustangs Monday evening by an 80-65 score.

Morningside guard Taylor Bahensky scored 32 points – including a remarkable 21 points in the second half – to pace the Mustangs. With under three minutes to play, Bahensky scored seven consecutive points in less than 30 seconds to put the game away after Dordt had pulled to within five.

The Defenders had led by as many as 13 points in the first half thanks to an 18-2 run, but saw their lead dwindle to 39-32 by halftime. Morningside pressed the entire second half and used a stifling zone defense to force turnovers. As a result, the Mustangs outscored the Defenders 48-26 in the second stanza.

Dordt was led by Jessica De Groot with 12 points. Shae De Jager and Rebecca Gritters each scored 11, and Paige Engbers contributed 10 to continue her season-long streak of scoring in double figures.
