Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Nebraska Wesleyan

(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender women’s basketball team earned their 13th win of the season with a 72-53 win over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The Defenders took the lead for good on a Abby Chapman three-point basket with 14:39 left in the first half. The basket started a nine point run that ended with a Chapman lay up at the 12:35 mark. The Defenders took their first double digit lead of the game at the 10:59 mark of the half and they stretched the lead to as many 19 before taking a 36-23 halftime lead.

Nebraska Wesleyan made a short challenge in the second half by trimming the lead to 36-28 at the 18:47 mark. An Elise Maresh bucket at the 17:35 mark gave Dordt a double digit lead the Defenders had no trouble maintaining on the way to a 19 point win.

Dordt’s Abby Chapman led all players with 16 points while converting 6-7 field goals and 4-5 three-point baskets. Kayla Broekhuis added 15 and was 4-6 from the field and 3-3 on three-point baskets. Kim Kroeze was good for 12 points and had four rebounds. Mycah Hulst scored nine and had a team high eight rebounds. Jasmin Schelhaas dished out a game high five assists.

Nebraska Wesleyan was topped by Bridget Bucher with 16 and shared game honors with Chapman. Bucher also had nine rebounds Courtney Cook tossed in 15 and had six rebounds.

Dordt was 26-60 from the field and 9-13 on three-point baskets while converting 11-16 free throws. Nebraska Wesleyan was 17-56 from the field and 15-21 on free throws. Dordt had a 44-39 rebounding advantage.

Dordt is 13-14 overall and 6-12 in the GPAC. Nebraska Wesleyan is 1-22 overall and 0-18 in the GPAC.

Dordt will travel Northwestern to face the Red Raiders on Wednesday night before concluding the season at home against Midland on Saturday,
