Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Concordia

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Defenders were unable to overcome a 15 point half-time deficit and a dominating performance on the boards by Concordia, as they fell 81-63 to the Bulldogs in GPAC action in the De Witt Gymnasium this afternoon. The Defenders move to 8-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference with the loss while the Bulldogs improve to 14-3 on the season and 8-1 in GPAC play.

Concordia and Dordt battled back and forth early in the contest and were knotted at 10-10, the fourth tie of the contest, with 15:16 to play in the first half. Dordt knocked in back to back baskets to take a 14-10 lead on a Jamie Kok jumper with 13:19 to play. Tied at 18-18 Concordia rattled off 11 straight points to go up 29-18 on a Bailey Morris jumper with 3:52 to play and the Bulldogs led by as many as 17 before taking a 44-29 halftime advantage.

The Defenders were able to cut the Bulldog gap down to eight points on two separate occasions and came up just short of knocking down an open three to get within five with 7:12 to play. Instead Becky Mueller tossed in a layup at the other end to put Concordia back up by ten (62-52). A Kayla Broekhuis three pointer had the Defenders within seven (62-55) and Dordt was still within striking distance ( 64-56) with just under five minutes to play but Concordia went on an 11-0 run, putting the game out of reach on at Kristen Conahan three pointer that made it 75-56 with 2:27 remaining in the contest. The 81-63 victory leaves the Bulldogs with an unblemished (5-0) record on the road.

Bailey Morris led all scorers, knocking in 23 points for Concordia while grabbing seven rebound and four assists. Tracy Peitz and Kristin Conahan both added 14 points and Lori Laboda pulled down a game high ten rebounds. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Defenders 51-27 with 17 of their 51 coming on the offensive end of the floor. Dordt had 13 turnovers on the afternoon, while forcing the Bulldogs into committing 16.

Dordt was paced by Kayla Broekhuis' 21 points, as the senior guard hit eight of her twelve attempts, including three of four from three point range and two of two from the line. Kara Van Dyke had eight points in just 14 minutes of action and Danelle Boone, Mycah Hulst and Jamie Kok each had eight as well. Jamie Kok grabbed a team high five rebounds and Jessica Jelsema, Abby Chapman and Kim Kroeze each dished out three assists.

The Defenders were 21 of 55 from the floor (38.2%) with six of eighteen (33.3%) from beyond the arc and struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 15 of 26 (57.7%).

Concordia made 30 of 64 from the field (46.9%), hitting five of seventeen (29.4%) from three point range and 16 of 23 (69.6%) from the line.
