Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Grand View

(Des Moines, Iowa) The Dordt College women’s basketball team scored a 80-49 win over no. 17 ranked Grand View in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday night in non-conference basketball. The Defenders led start to finish in the contest to improve to 3-1 for the season.

The Defenders built a double digit lead with a Kara Van Dyke free throw with 8:51 left in the half and kept the lead at double digits for the remainder of the half in taking a 28-15 lead on an Elise Maresh bucket with :14 left in the first half of play.

Grand View manage to cut the lead to 33-24 with 16:28 left in the game but the Defenders had an answer as they scored 13 of the next 15 points, capping the run with a Mycah Hulst layup with 12:47 showing on the game clock.

By the midpoint of the second half the Defenders were up by over 20 points and they led by as many as 28 before coasting in with the 70-49 win.

Dordt was 23-63 from the field and 20-31 on free throws and committed 19 turnovers. Grand View was held to 18-58 shooting from the field for 31 percent and they converted 10-15 free throws. The Vikings committed 21 turnovers. Dordt had a 40-31 rebounding edge.

Kara Van Dyke had game honors in both points and rebounds with 17 and 11 and she had a steal and an assist. Jaimie Kok came off the bench to score 13 and had four rebounds. Elise Maresh had ten points and Jessica Jelsema took down nine rebounds and had six points with two steals. Micah Hulst scored nine points and had eight rebounds in 15 minutes of play.

Dordt will be off until Tuesday, November 12 when they travel back to Des Moines to face AIB. The Defenders are 3-1 while Grand View falls to 1-2, all in games against Great Plains Athletic Conference members.
