Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Jamestown

(Jamestown, North Dakota) The Dordt College Defender women’s basketball team was unable to hold on to a 40-36 halftime lead and fell 80-78 to no. 10 ranked Jamestown in a game played Saturday afternoon in Jamestown, North Dakota.
The Defenders took a 15-8 lead four minutes into the game but the hosts came roaring back for a 25-19 lead at the midpoint of the first half. The Defenders eventually tied the game with a free throw by Jaimie Kok at the 5:37 mark of the first half. Kok then gave the Defenders a 32-31 lead on a free throw with 5:07 left in the half. An Elise Maresh basket with less than a minute left got the Defenders up 40-33 and the Defenders were up for at halftime.
Neither team led by more than six points in the second half with Dordt tying the score at 67-67 and 68-68. Points came grudgingly with ties at 69 and 70 as well and the last of 12 deadlocks came at the 00:41 mark of the game when Hannah Steele made both free throws.
Dordt had the ball with less than :30 left but a turnover gave the hosts the ball and Steele responded with a basket in the closing seconds for the eventual final of 80-78. Jessica Jelsema got a three-point shot off but it was off the mark as time expired.
Dordt was 27-54 from the floor and 20-24 on free throws. Jamestown converted 27-66 field goals and was 19-20 on free throws. Jamestown outrebounded Dordt 37-32 and both teams had 16 turnovers.
Elise Maresh led Dordt with 19poitns and Jaimie Kok had 14 points off the bench. Kara Van Dyke was good for 17 points and eight rebounds and Danelle Boone had 11 points.
Hannah Steele had 25 points and Jessica Buck 22 for the hosts who are now 4-1. Dordt is 2-1 and will travel to Grand View in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday night.
