Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. AIB College of Business

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Defender women's basketball team improved to 2-4 on the season with a dominating 87-34 non-conference victory over the AIB Eagles this evening (Wednesday, November 14).
Dordt started the game on a 13-0 run with AIB getting on the board with 15:14 left in the half. The Eagles didn't score a field goal until they banked in a three-point basket with 12:45 left in the half and made the score 20-4. The Defenders took a 56-12 lead into the intermission.
The second half started in much the same way as the first with the Defenders scoring the first seven points after the break, eventually building a 61 point lead before winning by the final 53 point margin.
Dordt's Kara Van Dyke led all players in scoring with 22 points while also snaring a game high 15 boards. Van Dyke was 8-14 from the floor and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Kayla Broekhuis had 19 points for the Defenders on 7-11 from the floor including an impressive 5-7 from 3 point range while dishing out 2 assists. Elise Maresh rounded out the double digit scorers for Dordt with 16 point on 6-7 from the floor and 4-5 from the charity stripe while also ripping down 9 boards.
Megan Howard paced AIB with 9 points on 2-8 from the floor with 1-1 from three point range and 4-4 from the free throw line. Hannah Redenius pulled down 13 caroms for the visiting Eagles.
On the night the Defenders launched 70 shots from the floor, knocking down 30 (42.9%) and were 7-17 from behind the arch for 41.2%. Dordt made 30 trips to the free throw line, converting on 20 attempts for 66.7%.
AIB hoisted up 76 shots but only found the bottom of the well 11 times for 14.5% from the floor. The Eagles put up 17 shots from three point range, making just 2 for 11.8% and AIB shot 50% from the stripe on 10 of 20.
As a team, the Defenders pulled down 66 rebounds, including 21 on the offensive glass while AIB grabbed 48 boards, with 25 coming on the offensive end. The Eagles turned the ball over 26 times with Dordt College giving the ball up on 24 occasions. The Defenders had assists on 18 of their 30 baskets with Jasmin Schelhaas dishing out 5 and Brianna Spronk had 4. AIB finished with 7 assists on their 11 made field goals.
The Defenders will next be in action on Saturday, November 17 at 1:00 pm as they begin Great Plains Athletics Conference action against the Doane Tigers in Crete, Nebraska.
