February 6, 2012

Hastings responded by six unanswered. Bailey Spencer broke the run with a basket but the Broncos led 29-23 at the half.

Hastings got up by nine right away 34-25 but the Defenders responded with a nine point run of their own to knot it at 34-34 with Jaimie Kok doing the bulk of the damage with seven points--five of them from the free throw line. Hastings proceeded to pull away and lead by double digits with Dordt getting no closer than seven before falling 67-58.

Alicia Statler led all scorers with 24 points and also grabbed a game high 12 boards.

The Defenders finished the night shooting 22 of 49 (45%), with 6 of 13 (46%) from three point range and shot 8 of 11 from the free throw line for 73%.

Hastings held a slight edge in rebounding on the Defenders as they pulled down 29 while Dordt grabbed 26. Dordt College turned the ball over 21 times on 15 Hastings steals while the Broncos turned the ball over 14 times with the Defenders creditedd with 8 steals.

"I thought we really battled defensively for 40 minutes," commented Dordt Head Coach Craig Stiemsma, "we really tried to be aggressive on the offensive end and that forced us to turn the ball over a little more. Once we got even with them we really needed to take care of the ball, especially on the road, and we gave it up at bad times and let them pull away from us again. Brianna Spronk hustles so much and rebounds so well and gave us great minutes again tonight and the captains did a solid job leading us on the floor."
