Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Doane

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Each of Dordt's three seniors enjoyed double digit scoring in pacing the Defenders to a 78-53 win over the Doane Tigers in the last regular season contest of the season. With the win the Defenders improve to 16-12 overall and 7-11 in the GPAC while the Tigers fall to 9-18 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
An Amber Soodsma 3 pointer gave the Defenders a ten point lead with 11:09 remaining in the first half and Doane would not get within 12 points for the duration of the contest as Dordt shot 51.9% in the first half to take a 40-24 half-time lead.
The Defenders scored the first 4 points of the second half to take a 20 point lead at 44-24 with 19:05 remaining in the contest. A jumper by Doane's Nicole Skolnick got the Tigers to within 12 (51-39) at the 13:50 mark but an 8-2 run for the Defenders got Dordt another 20 point cushion at 61-41 with 9:46 to play.
Doane would get to within 18 on two separate occasions down the stretch but a pair of free throws by Bre Schneidermann gave Dordt a 21 point lead (68-47) with 6:06 to play and Dordt coasted to the win, leading by as many as 27 (78-51) before taking the 78-53 victory.
Dordt's 3 seniors contributed 51 of their 78 points as Amber Soodsma (Hudsonville, MI) dropped in 19, Julia DeKoekkoek (Edmonds, WA) had 17 and Bre Schneidermann (Brooklyn Park, MN) tossed in 15. Soodsma also dished out 3 and had a steal while DeKoekkoek pulled down a game high 7 rebounds and Schneiderman was 5-6 from the floor and 5-5 from the charity stripe.
Doane was led by Savannah Lohmeier's 11 points and Nicole Skolnick added 10 and Lohmeier had a team high 5 rebounds. Cheryl Braithwait led the Tigers with 3 assists.
"We came out and played really hard and had a great start offensively," said Dordt Head Coach Craig Stiemsma."It's really nice to have a game like this going into the tournament. We caused a lot of turnovers with our length and quickness and did a great job getting in the passing line. It's a lot of fun to have our three seniors play like this on senior night."
The Defenders ended the night shooting 51% from the floor on 26 of 51, 38.5% (5-13)from 3 point range and 77.8% (21-27) from the free throw line.
Doane shot 19-45 (42.2%) from the floor, 28.6% (2-7) from 3 point land and were 13-18 (72.2% from the free throw line.
Dordt College pulled down 30 rebounds while the Tigers grabbed 27. Dordt's tough defense forced the Tigers into 25 turnovers while the Defenders gave up the ball 18 times.

Dordt has secured the #6 spot in the GPAC tournament and will host a first round game against Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday, February 22 in Sioux Center.
