Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Jamestown
November 6, 2010
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender women's basketball team improved to 2-0 to start the 2010-2011 season with a 76-69 win over Jamestown (North Dakota) on Saturday afternoon at the De Witt Gym. The loss was the second in as many nights for the Jimmies who trailed the entire game.
Dordt built a 37-27 lead at halftime behind 16 points by Amber Soodsma but the leading scorer took her fourth foul of the game early in the second half and was forced to watch as her teammates built the lead all the way to 20 points at 54-34 on a Danelle Miedema three-pointer with 12:40 left in the game. Jamestown continued to hang around and cut the lead all the way down to six on three different occasions--the last time with under a minute left. The Jimmies actually got to within five but there wasn't enough time to mount a credible threat with 00:06 left.
Soodsma ended up with 21 points and moves to second all time in scoring with 1330 points, trailing Lisa Roos's 1414. Julia De Koekkoek converted for 13 points and Miedema had 11 in her second career start. Bre Schneidermann had 10 points and 11 rebounds with three steals. Dordt made 25-63 shots and held a 45-39 rebounding edge.
Jamestown drops to 0-2 after getting 14 points from Bridget Schuneman and 13 each from Casey Geffre, Amber Ramlo and Hannah Steele.
Dordt travels to Dakota State on Tuesday, November 9 in its next action against a third Dakota Athletic Conference school.
