Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Peru State

(Peru, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender women's basketball team overcame a poor shooting effort to take a 13 point win over Peru State in non conference basketball played in Peru, Nebraska on Monday night. The Defenders started slowly but recovered to take a double digit lead at halftime and that lead never got under 12 in the second half.
Peru State scored the first seven points of the game and were up 11-5 before Dordt ran off the next 18 points. Peru State briefly cut the lead to six late in tha half but another run by Dordt made it 36-22 at the half.
Dordt extended the lead to 21 in the second half only to have the Bobcats score seven points in a row and kept the game between and 13 and 17 point difference the rest of the game.
Dordt was led by Amber Soodsma's 18 points and Julia De Koekkoek had 14 points. Kate Du Mez and Brianna Spronk each had nine and McKinzie Schmidt had eight. Dordt converted 23-62 shots for 37.1 percent while outrebounding the Bobcats 52-39. Peru State managed to get 18 points from Monique McDuffie and Courtney Ward had 14 with 13 rebounds.
Dordt's top rebounder was Schmidt with 12 and Soodsma had 10. Du Mez had four assists and seven steals. Schmidt also had three assists and three steals.
Dordt is 6-6 overall and return to conference play with two games this week. Dordt travels to Briar Cliff on Wednesday night and the Defenders travel to Sioux Falls on Saturday.
