Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Black Hills State--South Dakota Tech Classic

(Rapid City, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender women's basketball team lost their season opening test to the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets in a game hosted by South Dakota Tech in Rapid City, South Dakota. The game is a part of a two-day classic hosted by the Hardrockers to open the season.
The Defenders trailed 33-26 at halftime and trailed most of the second half by differences of eight to twelve points. The Defenders had the lead down to eight points and had a shot to make it a five point game but missed with about six minutes remaining. Dordt was forced to foul to get the ball back and lost by the final 14 point count.
Dordt was led in scoring by Julia DeKoekkoek with 22 points while Bre Schneidermann had 12 points. Amber Soodsma knocked down ten points and had six rebounds. Schneidermann and DeKoekkoek each had eight rebounds and Schneidermann had three blocked shots while De Koekkoek had four steals. McKinzie Schmidt was Dordt's leading rebounder with ten and she had three steals and seven points.
The Defenders converted 20-55 shots for 36.4 percent while the Yellow Jackets made 25-58 shots for 43.1 percent. Black Hills State was topped by Katelyn Lamb with 16 points and Brittany Fuhrman had 14 points.
Dordt will face South Dakota Tech on Saturday at noon (Mountain Time). This was the season opening game for both teams.
