Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Midland Lutheran

(Fremont, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender womenís basketball team pulled away late in their game with the Midland Lutheran Warriors in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday. The Defenders scored the final 14 points of the game on the way to a 58-45 win on the road.

The Defenders scored the first eight points of the game and were up 15-9 on a pair of Kelsie De Nooy free throws with 13:18 remaining in the half. Dordt would not score again until the 5:49 mark when De Nooy made another free throw. The Defenders never gave up the lead during that stretch and were up 16-13 when De Nooy made the charity toss. Midland Lutheran would eventually take a 21-20 lead on a Jenna Holt three-pointer.

Dordt bounced back for an 8-4 run the rest of the half and went into the lockerroom up 28-25. Dordt then scored eight of the first nine points of the second half for a 36-26 lead when Amber Soodsma made a jumper with 14:56 left in the game. Midland Lutheran made a charge back to take the lead at 41-40 with 8:40 left. The Warriors still led 45-44 with 6:01 remaining in the game. Midland would not score the rest of the game.

Amber Soodsma proceeded to hit back to back three-pointers and the Defenders were able to loosen up the Midland Lutheran zone and go on for the third win of the conference season.

The Defenders converted 23-69 shots and 10-16 free throws while Midland Lutheran was 17-50 from the floor and 7-15 on free throws. The Defenders outrebounded the hosts 56-31 and committed 17 turnovers.

Kelsie De Nooy led the team with 24 points and Amber Soodsma added 12. Kara Karlsgodt added ten points and had eight rebounds. Kate Du Mez and McKinzie Schmidt both had 11 rebounds and Du Mez had eight assists and six steals. Schmidt also had eight points.

Midland Lutheran was led by Jenna Holtís 15 points.

Dordt is now 3-8 in the conference and 8-12 overall while Midland Lutheran is 7-15 and 2-10.
