Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Northwest

(Kirkland, Washington) The Dordt College women's basketball team ran their winning streak to three with a 62-54 win over Northwest (Washington) on Saturday, December 29 to improve to 4-7 for the season.
The Defenders found themselves down 27-24 at halftime after trailing 11-0 to start the game. A Kate Du Mez jumper got Dordt on the board with 15:22 left in the first half. The Defenders were still down 22-12 with 5:58 left in the half before outscoring the hosts in Kirkland, Washington 12-5 to cut the lead to the three point halftime difference.
Dordt took their first lead of the game on a three-pointer by Amber Soodsma with 18:20 left in teh game and the Defenders eventually pushed the advantage to eight at 41-33 with 13:06 remaining in the game after McKinzie Schmidt bottomed out a shot. The Defenders maintained at least a three-point lead the rest of the way before settling for the eight point win.
Dordt was25-76 from the floor and outrebounded the hosts 50-38. Northwest was 21-64 from the floor and only got to the free throw line 12 times--making six. Dordt waspaced by Kelsie De Nooy who scored 15 off the bench on 6-15 shooting and snatched seven rebounds. McKinzie Schmidt scored 13 with eight rebounds and Kate Du Mez added 11 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Amber Soodsma added nine points with five rebounds and Kara Karlsgodt got to 11 rebounds and had game honors in assists with six.
Northwest was led by Brittany Bowsher's 21 points and eight rebounds.
Dordt is 4-7 and will return to action on January 2 when they host Waldorf at 5:30 in a rescheduled game from December 1.
