(Crete, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender women's basketball team lost an 82-69 decision to the Doane College Tigers on Saturday, December 8 in Crete, Nebraska.
The Defenders held a 23-20 lead with 7:08 left to go in the first half after a Jenny Miller three-point basket. Doane answered with three-pointer of their own and the two teams were tied at 25-25 before Doane extended the lead to 32-25 with 3:54 left in the half. The Defenders managed to score the next nine points for a two point lead-- with a little over two minutes left in the half but the Tigers re-took the lead and wouldn't give it up the rest of the game.
Dordt trailed 39-36 at halftime and managed to tie the game at 41-41 on an Amber Soodsma three-pointer. The Defenders managed to keep the game close, trailing by four with 11:53 left in the game but the Tigers gradually pulled away to a double digit lead with 5:29 left and rode that home for a 13 point win.
The Defenders made 22-54 shots from the floor and were led by Amber Soodsma's 19 points--16 of which came in the first half. Kate Du Mez and Kara Karlsgodt both had 12 and McKinzie Schmidt had eight points and a team high 11 rebounds. Soodsma had three assists and the Defenders were slightly outrebounded 46-37.
Doane was topped by Lindsay Anderson with 21 points and Vanessa Munter had 18 poins and eight rebounds.
Dordt is now 1-7 overall and 0-4 Great Plains Athletic Conference Doane improves to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the GPAC. Dordt has a full week off before facing Dana on Saturday, December 15 in Blair, Nebraska in their final game before Christmas.
