(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Northwestern Red Raiders ran away from the Dordt College Defenders on Tuesday night in women's college basketball at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center, Iowa by a final score of 106-62. It was the conference opener for both teams.
The two teams were tied at 13-13 with 12:00 left in the first half when Northwestern went on a 12-0 run to extend the lead to double digits and went into the halftime up 55-32. The Defenders were never able to mount a serious charge in the second half, getting outscored 51-30, losing by the final of 106-62.
Northwestern made 39-71 shots from the floor for 54.9 percent and were 12-21 from the three point line for 57.1 percent. Dordt was 24-71 from the floor for 33.8 percent but were unable to connect on a three-pointer. Dordt had four players in double figures with Amber Soodsma and Kara Karlsgodt each getting 12. Karlsgodt did it on 6-9 shooting from the floor. Kate Du Mez and Kelsie De Nooy both had 11 points and Karlsgodt was the top rebounder with six and three other players, McKinzie Schmidt, Jenny Miller and De Nooy had five rebounds. Du Mez handed out three assists.
Northwestern was led by Deb Remmerde's 33 points on 14-17 shooting and was 4-5 on three-poiters. Amy Larson knocked down 18 and Becca Hurley had 13 while Mandy Carr had four assists and five rebounds. Crystal Algood was Northwestern's leading rebounder with nine and Northwestern held a 44-41 rebounding edge.
Dordt is now 1-4 and 0-1 in the league while Northwestern is 8-0 and 1-0. Dordt will face Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday, November 28 in Mitchell, South Dakota in their next outing.
