(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender women's basketball team dropped a 63-47 loss to the number nine ranked Dakota State Trojans in women's college basketball on Thursday night in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Defenders held a slim 27-26 lead at halftime after a jumper by Angela Carr cut the Dordt lead down to the halftime margin with :45 left. Dordt had as much as a three point lead twice in the first half and Dakota State led by as many as seven points at 11-4 with 13:55 remaining in the first half. Dordt was able to limit Dakota State's leading scorer, Laura Tewes to four points in the first half.
The Trojans scored the first 14 points of the second half to take a 40-27 lead and Dordt never got closer than 40-31 difference when McKinzie Schmidt made a shot with 13:04 remaining in the game. Dakota State used a stifling defense to limit Dordt to four points in the first twelve minutes of the second half in taking the 63-47 win.
Dordt was led by three players, Kate Du Mez, Erin Savery and Amber Soodsma with nine points a piece while McKinzie Schmidt and Kelsie De Nooy both had eight points. Schmidt got to 11 rebounds and Du Mez had five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and four steals in the loss and Jenny Miller had three assists. Bre Schneiderman had five rebounds as Dordt held a 51-36 rebounding advantage.
Dakota State got 18 points from Tewes and ten rebounds while Maria Gengler had 13 points. Jessica Van Loy dished out five assists for Dakota State who is now 4-0 this season and 3-0 against GPAC teams.
Dordt made 18-66 shots for 27.3 percent while Dakota State was 29-62 for 46.8 percent. Dordt committed 32 turnovers to 25 for Dakota State.
Dordt College is 1-3 and open GPAC play on Tuesday, November 20 against Northwestern in Sioux Center, Iowa.
