Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Mount Marty--GPAC Quarterfinals

(Yankton, South Dakota) The Dordt College Lady Defender basketball team's season came to a close with a 73-54 loss to the nationally ranked Mount Marty Lancers on Thursday night in the quarterfinal round of the GPAC tournament.

The Defenders played even with the Lancers in the first seven minutes, tying the game at 13-13 with 12:36 left on a Kate Du Mez basket. From there the Lancers pulled away to a 39-21 lead with 2:56 remaining in the half and the Defenders went into the lockerroom down 44-25 when Natasha Swier nailed a three-pointer. The Lancers shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half.

Dordt was able to whittle the lead down to 14 with 5:28 remaining but the Lancers responded with back-to-back baskets to push the game out of reach and went on to take the 19 point victory.

Dordt closed the year with an 11-19 record and were led by Lindsey Van Wyk with 20 points. The senior closed her career by moving to 13th all time with 866 career points. Kate Du Mez hit for nine points. As a team the Defenders made 20-65 shots and were limited 1-11 on three-pointers as a team. Kara Karlsgodt added eight and Kelsie De Nooy six. Van Wyk grabbed seven rebounds and Karlsgodt six in the third meeting between the two teams.

Mount Marty was topped by Natasha Swier's 16 points as the reserve made 5-6 three-pointers and Carrie Ahlers had 11 points. Mount Marty advances on to host Hastings College on Saturday afternoon in a semifinal game on Saturday.
