Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Central (Iowa)

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College women hosted Central College out of Pella, Iowa today for a 2:00 afternoon matchup between the home NAIA Defenders and the NCAA Div. III Dutch. Dordt earned a win on their home court, beating the Dutch 73-71. Central traveled to Sioux Center with a 3-6 record, having lost most of their games on the road. Dordt entered the game with a 4-9 record overall, dropping their last game to the College of Saint Mary right before Christmas. The Defenders stay at 3-2 in the GPAC with the nonconference today.

Central jumped out to an early lead, scoring two unanswered baskets at the start and pushing to a 11-7 lead 6 minutes after the tip-off. A jumper by Kristin De Ronde tied the game at 11, one of the five ties of the first half. The Defenders went up by as much as five in the closing minutes of the first half but were unable to sustain the lead, going into halftime tied at 36. The second half saw Central continue to stick with Dordt on the scoreboard, nailing crucial three pointers down the stretch. Porter brought the game within 1 with 12 seconds remaining with her three and got off a last second shot that would have tied the game at 73. Kristin De Ronde was there to bother Porter's last-second attempt to secure the win.

Central's Laura Porter spearheaded their offense with her 17 first half points and four assists. Porter was held to 26 overall with aggressive defense by Kara Karlsgodt in the second half. Karlsgodt recorded a double-double on the afternoon with her 15 point and 12 rebound effort. She was followed in scoring by Lindsey Van Wyk (14), Kristin De Ronde (12), and Kate Du Mez (10). Du Mez also led the team with her three assists, while De Ronde grabbed her share of the team's boards, recording 9 for the game. Central's only other scorers to reach double digits were Emily Conway, shooting 5-6 from behind the three-point line, and Erin Benson, who also pulled down five boards.
