Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Buena Vista

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt women's basketball team were defeated 69-75 in nonconference action by Buena Vista at home tonight, dropping to 2-8 on the year.

The Defenders got off to a great start off a three-pointer by Lindsey Van Wyk in the first possession of the game. Dordt pushed the lead to 14-4 by the 13:44 mark off two free throws by Kelsie De Nooy. Buena Vista fought back and brought it within two with about 9 minutes to go in the half off a three pointer by Tracy Hartwig. A free throw shot by Erin Savery with 4:04 remaining in the first half stretched Dordt's lead to nine, but Buena Vista was able to bring it within five before heading into the locker room.

Dordt College led by as many as nine 46-37 with 16:39 but a 14-0 run by the visitors over the six minutes swung the momentum to Buena Vista's favor and the Defenders would never take the lead again the rest of the game. Dordt did get back to within two at 59-61 with 5:04 left on a pair of free throws by Amanda Henke but the Beavers went on another run to extend their lead to 66-59 and Dordt got no closer than five the rest of the way

Both teams were in the bonus mid-way through the second half. Buena Vista shot 19-26 from the foul line, while Dordt was 11-18. Field goal percentage worked in Buena Vista's favor, knocking down 52.4% of their shots in the second half. Freshman Kate De Mez led Dordt with her 16 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds on the night. Kara Karlsgodt put up 14 points to go along with six rebounds, while Lindsey Van Wyk recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds for the game. Kristin De Ronde was the team's leading rebounder, pulling in 4 offensive and three defensive boards.

Buena Vista had four five players in double figures with Tracy Hartwig's 14 while Courtney Stoelk, Katie Ebel and Jenn Schumann all had 11 and Margo Muhlbauer added 10.

Dordt will host GPAC opponent Briar Cliff this Saturday at 2:00 pm. Dordt beat Briar Cliff back on November 18 60-53.
