(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College moved to 2-2 in the conference with a home victory over Midland Lutheran this afternoon. In only the third home game for Dordt this season, the Defenders took Midland Lutheran in a 65-57 effort. With the loss, Midland, 7-1 going into the game, dropped to 1-2 in the league.
In a low-scoring start, Midland took their first lead of the game at 4-3, five minutes into the first half. Turnovers and missed shots put Dordt behind 10 with 3:55 reamaining in the half. An offensive rebound conversion by Kelsie De Nooy sparked a run for the Defenders. After an Erin Savery steal and layup with 13 seconds left, Dordt went into the locker room down only three.
A three-pointer by Amy Prather started the second half with a 25-25 tie. Kara Karlsgodt also found the basket for three points on the next possesion, giving Dordt the lead. Midland stayed close throughout the rest of the game, but couldn't get closer than a 39-39 tie with 12:18 remaining in the game. The Defenders secured the lead by with about 10 minutes remaining off a three-pointer by Lindsey Van Wyk and went on to win by 8.
Kristin De Ronde led the team with her 12 points. De Ronde, Kara Karlsgodt and McKinzie Schmidt all hauled down seven rebounds. Kelsie De Nooy contributed significantly, coming off the bench with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and three steals on the afternoon. Kara Karlsgodt and Lindsey Van Wyk also reached double-digits, each scoring 10 points, and Schmidt recorded six points to go along with her seven rebounds.
Dordt College held Liz Sneed, Midland Lutheran's leading scorer to nine poitns on 3-9 shooting with the Warriors getting 12 points each from Allie Rippe and Marcy Hauschild. Midland Lutheran had a 40-37 advantage on the boards. Kate Du Mez and Van Wyk both had three assists for a Dordt College team that is now 2-2 in conference play while Midland Lutheran has dropped their second in a row after starting the year 7-0. Dordt will host Buena Vista in a non-conference game on Wednesday night at 5:30.
