Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Mayville State-Dakota State Classic

(Madison, South Dakota) The Defenders took on Mayville State in their 5th game of the season in Madison, South Dakota at the Dakota State Classic. Mayville earned the win in a 90-61 game.

Dordt took an early 9-6 lead, forcing Mayville to use the first time-out of the game. Side-line fast breaks, bigger-bodied posts, and a 5-6 three-point shooting effort from Cassie Leraas put Mayville up 44-31 at the half.

Mayville's match-up zone created problems for the Defenders into the 2nd half of the game, causing 26 turnovers for Dordt.

Kate De Mez came gave the Defenders a spark off the bench with her 18 points, 3 steals, and 4 rebounds. Erin Savery and Amy Prather handled the gaurd positions well for Dordt with 7 and 10 points respectively. Amanda Henke added 12 points and 3 assists, while Kara Karlsgodt battled for 9 points and a game-high 9 rebounds.

Dordt College was limited to 19-67 shooting from the floor while Mayville State shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and the Comets outrebounded Dordt 47-36 behind Kelly Latozke's eight.

Mayville State is now 5-1 while the Defenders drop to 0-5, playing four Dakota Athletic Conference schools on back to back weekends around a loss to Grand View.
