Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Briar Cliff

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Lady Defenders closed out the 2005-2006 regular season with a blowout win over the Briar Cliff Lady Chargers 76-46 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.
The Lady Defenders limited Briar Cliff on offense in the first half, running away form a 2-2 tie with an 8-0 run. The Lady Defenders got their first double digit lead of the game at 14-4 wtih 13:13 left in the first half on a Lindsey Van Wyk jumper and continued to build on the lead, using jump shots by Van Wyk to get some breathing room. The Lady Defenders took a 19 point lead into the locker room at 35-16 with Van Wyk scoring 12 first half points.
Briar Cliff never made a charge at the Lady Defenders and Dordt coasted in for their ninth win of the conference season and 14th win overall.
Dordt was led by Lindsey Van Wyk's 14 points on 6-11 shooting. Shawna Flikkema added nine points while Rachel Van Beek had eight points and eight rebounds, becoming the seventh Lady Defender in Dordt College history to score 600 points and grab 600 rebounds during their career. Briar Cliff got 10 points from Dana Lehner and nine from Angie Heimes. The Lady Chargers were limited to just 48 shots from the floor, making 16. Dordt forced Briar Cliff into 24 turnovers, 19 of them in the first half.
The win is gives Dordt College their highest win total since the 1998-1999 season when the Lady Defenders were 16-10.
