Dordt College Women's Basketball vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Lady Defenders came close to pulling off an upset of eighth-rated Morningside in Sioux City Wednesday night but came up short 77-71 at Allee Gym.
The two teams struggled offensively in the first half with the scored tied at 13 with 6:44 left in the half. Monringside pulled away to a four point lead on a Betsy Reynolds lay-up but Dordt got a basket by Shawna Flikkema near the end of the half to make it 32-30 at intermission.
Morningside threatened to pull away after halftime, scoring eight of the first ten points to lead 40-32 with 17:39 remaining. The hosts still held a six point lead at 43-37 with 16:10 remaining but a Rachel Van Beek free throw with 15:36 would start a 16-0 run by the Lady Defenders that stretched out till the score as 53-43 with 9:52 remaining.
A Jennifer Fransescon three-pointer ended the string. Jill Haan stretched the lead to 58-46 on two free throws with 8:30 left but the Mustangs would come back.
Trailing by nine with 7:20 remaining, the hosts outscored Dordt 16-7 over the next four minutes, capping the comeback with a pair of Jill Pudenz free throws to make ith 70-69. Dordt did make it 72-71 on a Rachel Van Beek shot with 2:10 remaining but Morningside controlled the ball and made free throws to win 77-71.
Dordt was led by Lindsey Van Wyk's 13 points on 3-4 shooting on three-pointers while Kathryn Ferrie had 12. Rachel Van Beek hit for 11 points and 17 rebounds and Shawna Flikkema added eight points.
Morningside's Jill Pudenz had 23 points and Dani Gass 22 points and 10 rebounds.
