Dordt College JV Men's Basketball vs. Dakota Wesleyan

December 12, 2013

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Defender men scratched and clawed throughout the second half, but, in the end, came up one shot short.

Dakota Wesleyan notched a 79-77 victory when Dordt couldn't convert on a final attempt by Austin Ver Meer at the buzzer.

Ver Meer scored 34 points for the Defenders, but couldn't get his final jump shot to go as time expired. Michael Den Herder also notched 20 points, including a clutch 3-pointer to pull Dordt within one in the final minute.

But the Tigers fended off every Dordt push to take the lead down the stretch. Matt Henriksen finished with 28 points and 5-of-5 long-range shooting. Sawyer Gibson contributed 15 points as well.

The Tigers put on an impressive display from 3-point range, shooting 80 percent from distance in the first half and 67 percent for the entire game. They never trailed after halftime.

With the loss, Dordt's record dropped to 6-8 (4-3). They get an extended break before taking on Briar Cliff on Jan. 16.
