Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Dakota State

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender menís basketball team won its fourth game in a row to improve to 21-2 this season with a 98-90 win over Dakota State in non-conference basketball. The Defenders trailed briefly in the first half and had to withstand a Dakota State challenge in the second half to secure the non-conference win.

The game started at a breakneck pace with the times ending up at a 30-30 tie with 9:46 left in the first half. The Trojans rode the hot shooting of Dylan Hale in the first ten minutes as the guard poured in 22 points in the first ten minutes of the game.

The Defenders trailed at 30-27 but a Austin Katje basket tied the game and was the start of an 8-0 run that led to an eventual 57-50 halftime lead.

The Defenders took control in the second half as they outscored Dakota State 8-0 in the first 4:52 of the second half for a 65-50 lead. The Defenders were able to maintain the 15 point advantage until the 11:13 mark of the game at 74-59. Dakota State put together a comeback that cut the difference to 77-72 with 7:12 left. The teams proceeded to trade buckets with the Defenders getting up 87-78 with 3:17 left on a Tyler Wolterstorff basket. Gary Garnerís team ran out of time, cutting the lead to 95-90 with :14 left and Dalton Franken sealed it moments later with two free throws.

Dakota State was 32-69 from the field and 11-23 on three-point shots. Dordt countered with a 32-69 shooting day and 7-20 for three-pointers. Dakota State was 15-16 from the free throw line and Dordt was 27-37. Dordt had just six turnovers and Dakota State had 14.

Dalton Franken led Dordt with 32 points and three rebounds. Franken was 10-21 from the field and 12-12 with free throws. Tyler Wolterstorff had 19 points and seven rebounds with Kyle Lindbergh adding 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots. Austin Katje scored 16 and had seven rebounds with two assists and David Den Herder had six points and four rebounds.

Dakota State was led by a game high 33 points by Dylan Hale as he went 11-22 from the field and he was 7-10 from the three point line. Miguel Sansavour tossed in 20 and had seven rebounds with Yusuf Vinson and Marcus Smith scoring 12 and 11 respectively.

Dakota State is 9-12 while Dordt is now 21-2. Dordt will face Briar Cliff in Sioux City on Wednesday night.
