Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Mount Marty

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt College trailed very briefly this evening before taking a 4-2 lead on an Austin Katje three pointer and never relinquishing it. Leading 15-9 the Defenders went on a 14-0 run to blow the game open as a Nathan Rindels free throw put Dordt up 29-9 with 8:45 to play. The Defenders would lead by as many as 23 before taking a 43-22 lead at halftime.

The Defenders opened the second half with an 18-2 surge to take a 37 point lead (61-24) on a Nathan Rindels jumper with 13:41 to play. Dordt led by as many as 43 before earning the 34 point win.

“We really got off to a good start in the second half,” noted Dordt Head Coach Ross Douma, “we did a nice job competing over screens and contested shots around the arch really well. We shared the ball and were willing to make the extra pass tonight and took good shots within the rhythm of our offense.”

Dordt College had twelve different players score in the contest as Dalton Franken topped all scorers with 16 points with the freshman hitting five of eleven from the floor with two of three from three point range and four of four from the charity stripe while also grabbing four boards. Austin Katje and Alex Terpstra both added thirteen points with Katje hitting five of eight from the field with three three-pointers to go with three assists and a steal while Terpstra was five of ten from the floor with three of eight from beyond the arc. David Den Herder finished with a dozen points on three of four from the field and a perfect six of six from the line with four rebounds. Bryan Sumner rounded out the double digit scorers with ten points. Kyle Lindbergh had a game high nine boards in 19 minutes of action and Nathan Rindels dished out seven assists and had eight points.

Bud Smith led the Lancers with 12 points on four of twelve shooting with four of four from the line. Mitchell Newhouse was the only other player in double figures with 11 points on four of six from the floor and three of three from the line.

Dordt College grabbed 38 boards with Mount Marty pulling down 27. The Defenders had just 10 turnovers in the contest while forcing the Lancers in to committing 21. GPAC scores from today:
