Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Martin Luther

(New Ulm, Minnesota) The Dordt College men’s basketball team earned an 80-56 win over Martin Luther in New Ulm, Minnesota.

The Defenders scored six unanswered points to start the game and led 9-6 with 14:00 left when they went on an 8-0 run to establish order. An Austin VerMeer basket capped an 8-0 run to make it 24-8 with 9:49 left in the half. Martin Luther employed a slow down tactic in the first half but the Defenders kept pulling away to take a 42-15 halftime lead. Austin Katje and Alex Terpstra each had 11 points in the first half as Dordt made nearly 60 percent of its shots from the floor.

With no player getting more than 21 minutes for the game, Dordt held off Martin Luther for the 24 point win.

The Defenders were paced by Terpstra with 17 points and Katje ended with 13. Bryan Sumner added 11 as 12 different Dordt players scored. Dalton Franken and VerMeer each had eight points and Kyle Lindbergh had a game high nine rebounds. Katje and Patrick Knoblauch each had four assists.

Dordt was 30-55 from the field and 10-25 from the three-point line. Martin Luther was 24-59 from the field and was led by Galen Holzhueter with 20 points and six rebounds.

Dordt is 15-1 overall and will be off until January 4 when it hosts Concordia. Martin Luther falls to 0-10.
