Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Mount Marty

(Yankton, South Dakota) An 18-3 run to start the game took the suspense out of tonight's contest early as Dordt College knocked off Mount Marty 100-60 in GPAC play in Yankton, South Dakota. The Defenders improve to 8-1 on the season and an unblemished 3-0 in the conference while the Lancers drop to 0-6 for the year and 0-2 in GPAC play.
Dordt scored the first 12 points of the contest and quickly pushed the lead to 17 (25-8) on an Austin Katje three pointer with 11:04 to play in the first half. The Lancers were able to cut the Defender advantage down to 11 (29-18)with a Tyler Payer three-ball but Dordt replied by tallying 18 straight points over the next five and half minutes to put the game completely out of reach on a Tyler Knoblauch three pointer as Dordt led by 29 (47-18) with under three minutes to play in the half. The Defenders took a 56-23 lead in to the half-time break.
Dordt College would enjoy a 30 point advantage for the entirety of the second half and led by as many as 43. The Defenders, who will play two more times before the week is out, had the opportunity to get everyone in on the action, as 14 players saw the floor with nobody playing more than 20 minutes.
The Defenders were paced by Kyle Lindbergh's double double as the senior dropped in 20 points on a perfect eight of eight from the floor and four of six from the line while also snaring a game high thirteen boards. Dalten Franken finished with 15 points while Austin Katje added 14. Nathan Rindels dished out a game high four assists for the Defenders.
Bud Smith matched Lindbergh for top scorers with 20 points on 8 of 17 from the floor and four of six from the line. Zach Telles added a dozen for the Lancers and Lorenzo Davis had eleven.
Dordt dominated the boards, grabbing 57 caroms while holding Mount Marty to just 25 and no individual player for the Lancers had more than three rebounds. Dordt had 12 turnovers and the Lancers gave the ball up 11 times.
The Defenders shot 53.7% from the floor on 36 of 67 with 8 of 21 (38.1%) from three point range and Dordt was consistent from the free throw line, hitting 20 of 27 (74.1%).
The Lancers converted 21 of 61 from the field for 34.4% with 5 of 19 (26.3%) from beyond the arc and 13 of 24 (54.2%) from the line.
"I was really please at the fact that we got out to a quick start on both sides of the floor," noted Dordt Head Coach Ross Douma, "our seniors really did a good job of making sure our guys were ready to play tonight. We were strong in transition with Kyle (Lindbergh) and Dalton (Franken)doing a nice job in particular."

Dordt will host the Dordt College/Holiday Inn Express Classic on November 29 and 30, 2013 in Sioux Center, Iowa. On Friday, Dordt will take on AIB at 8:00 PM and on Saturday the Defenders will tip-off against Central College at 4:00 PM.
