Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Hastings

(Hastings, Nebraska) The Defender men improved to 6-3 in the Great Plains Athletics Conference and 14-3 overall with a 91-79 win on the road over the Hastings Broncos.

The two teams played through a first half with several lead changes and ties as the Defenders clung to a 41-40 halftime advantage. The game started slowly with the teams tied 4-4 with 15:28 left in the half before Trevor Wolterstorff hit a shot to give the Defenders a 6-4 advantage. Dordt built a 14-8 lead on a pair of free throws by Kyle Lindbergh at the 12:22 mark.

Hastings bounced back to cut the gap to 14-13 and eventually took a 19-18 lead as Carson Blum hit a three-point shot with 10:27 left in the half. The lead changed hands seven times over the remainder of the half as Brady Lollman single handedly kept the Broncos close. Lollman converted 17 points in a row at one point for the Broncos but a pair of Chris Sievers free throws with :35 left in the half sent the Defenders to the intermission up by one after they made a defensive stop on Hastingsís final possession of the first half.

The two teams exchanged baskets to start the second half with Dordt steadily pulling out to a 10 point lead at 61-51 on an Austin Katje jumper with 12:42 left in the game. Hastings whittled the lead down to four with Lollman converting a pair of free throws to make it 72-68 with 7:48 left in the game. A pair of three-pointers by Dordtís Cliff Warner at the 7:13 and 6:30 mark pushed the difference to ten and the lead was never under nine the rest of the game with Dordt securing itís fifth win in a row with the 91-79 victory.

Dordt converted 32-54 shots from the floor and 10-17 three-point baskets. Hastings countered with 31-61 shooting and was 10-19 on three-pointers. Dordt held a 32-24 rebounding advantage and committed 11 turnovers to 10 for the hosts.

Warner and Sievers each had 18 points with Warner going 6-8 from the floor and 5-7 on three-pointers. Sievers 6-9 from the floor and 6-10 on free throws. Trevor Wolterstorff added 17 and Austin Katje 15. Katje hit 6-9 shots including 3-6 three-pointers and Wolterstorff was 8-9. Lindbergh had eight points and a game high nine rebounds. Warner and Jordan Vogel each had four assists and Vogel added eight points.

Hastings was topped by Lollman with 27 and Dane Bacon added 18.

Hastings is 13-5 overall and 4-4 in the GPAC while Dordt improves to 14-3 and 6-3. GPAC Scores from this evening:

The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team will play host to the Concordia Bulldogs at 4:00 pm on Saturday, January 5 in the DeWitt Gymnasium in Sioux Center, Iowa.
