Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Webber International

(Babson Park, Florida) The Dordt College Defender men’s basketball team got a three-point basket from Cliff Warner with :21 left in the game and held on with a pair of defensive stops to take a 73-72 win over Webber International (Florida) at Babson Park, Florida on Friday night. The Defenders survived a five minute drought in the second half and a sub-par shooting night from the free throw line in taking their 12th win of the season in 15 starts.
The Warriors started the game with a 5-0 run and were up 9-4 when Dordt went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-9 advantage with 15:38 left in the half. The two teams proceeded to play pretty evenly the rest of the half with Dordt holding a 35-34 halftime edge.
Dordt started the second half with a 48-38 lead with 16:00 left in the game when Chris Sievers scored three straight. After a three-point shot by Brian Pace the Defenders got a free throw by Trevor Wolterstorff for a 49-41 advantage. Dordt wouldn’t score again until they were down 54-49 with 10:24 left.
Dordt eventually got down 60-53 with 7:52 when Tyler Auerbacher knocked down a three-point shot. A three-point shot by Kyle Lindbergh stemmed the momentum and a Cliff Warner three pointer with 5:28 left tied it 62-62. Six straight points by Webber International after Dordt had a one point lead made it 68-63 with 4:10 left in the game.
Jordan Vogel got a three-point play to cut it to 68-66 and Cliff Warner made a free throw to cut it to 68-67. Jakeem Hill knocked down a bucket for the Warriors with 1:59 left in the game for a 70-67 lead. Austin Katje hit a right wing three-point basket to tie it at 70-70 with 1:42 left. Webber International got a bucket by Pace with 1:06 left in the game.
Austin Katje missed a three-point shot on the next possession but Kyle Lindbergh got an offensive rebound to extend the possession and Warner drilled a three-point shot from the top of the key with :31 left for a 73-72 lead.
After a timeout Webber International got a drive by Pace who dumped the ball to Gabriel Rutledge in the lane who had his shot blocked out of bounds with :05 left in the game. After another timeout the Warriors inbounded the ball and worked the ball to Mike Bonilla who missed a three-pointer to win it at the buzzer.
Dordt converted 23-54 shots from the floor while the hosts were 27-61 from the field. Both teams struggled from the free throw line with Dordt making 20-34 from the stripe and 10-19 in the second half. Webber International was 8-23 from the free throw line and 5-13 in the second half. Dordt held a 51-31 rebounding advantage.
Jordan Vogel led Dordt with 16 points while going 6-9 from the field. Cliff Warner had 15 points with six assists. Trevor Wolterstorff added 12 points, 11 rebounds and two assists. Kyle Lindbergh had nine points and nine rebounds and Tyler Wolterstorff got credit for seven points and nine rebounds and Chris Sievers had eight points and five rebounds.
The hosts were led by Brian Pace with 19 points and six rebounds. Mike Bonilla added 14 points and Tyler Auerbacher added 13.
Dordt is now 12-3 overall and will face Warner in Lake Wales, Florida on Saturday. Webber International is 7-5 and their winning streak is stopped at five.
