Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Morningside

(Sioux City, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team took a 70-63 win over Morningside on Wednesday night in Great Plains Athletic Conference play to get above .500 in league play. The Defenders led the entire second half but had to fight off the Mustangs at the end for their fourth win of the conference season.
Dordt opened the game by getting up 19-11 when Chris Sievers scored on a lay up with 11:46 left in the half. The Defenders were held scoreless over the next 4:46 and fell behind 20-19 before Sievers scored a basket to end the drought.
Dordt closed the half with a six point run over the final 2:10, getting another lay up by Sievers and two free throws each by Trevor Wolterstorff and Cliff Warner to make it 34-27 Dordt at half.
A Jordan Vogel basket followed by a Warner three and a Kyle Lindbergh bucket in the first two minutes of the second half had the Defenders up 41-27. Morningside fought back to with in four at 48-44 with 10:21 left and trimmed it to 56-55 on a Ryan Strand basket with 4:56 left in the game.
A Nathan Rindels bucket on an offensive rebound and a pair of Warner free throws pushed the difference to 60-55 with 3:47 left. The Mustangs would get no closer than three over the final minutes as Dordt converted eight out of eight free throws in the final minutes to seal the win.
Warner led Dordt with 21 points while converting 10-10 free throws. Trevor Wolterstorff had 12 points and nine rebounds and Chris Sievers had 11 points with nine rebounds. Kyle Lindbergh had seven points and a team high four assists with two blocks and a steal. Tyler Wolterstorff and Vogel had six points each and seven and eight rebounds respectively.
Morningside got 11 points from Tanner Ferguson and Tanner Miller had 10 points. Dordt was 23-53 from the floor and 20-26 on free throws while Morningside was 25-70 from the field and 5-19 on three-pointers. Dordt held a 53-30 rebounding edge but committed 25 turnovers to 10 for the Mustangs.
Dordt is now 10-3 overall and 4-3 in the GPAC while the hosts go to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Dordt hosts Briar Cliff on Saturday while Morningside is home with Midland.
