Dordt College JV Men's Basketball vs. Buena Vista
November 21, 2011
(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt JV squad just keeps chugging along, getting better with every game and remaining spotless on the season. The Defenders defeated Buena Vista 89-59 on Monday night, advancing to 6-0.
Dordt never trailed en route to the win. They jumped on top by as many as 17 in the 1st half, highlighted by Aaron Van Vugt’s 11 points. The passing was crisp as the Defenders doubled the Beavers in assists at intermission---10 to 5. The shooting was also spot-on as Dordt shot over 51% from the floor. They led 45-31 at break.
The 2nd frame was more of the same as Dordt tacked on to their lead. Rees Beaver notched eight 2nd half points and was one of six Defenders in double-figures. Steven Broersma put the icing on the cake late in the contest with an emphatic slam, giving him a season-best 10 points. Broersma also excelled on the defensive end with three blocks.
The Beavers, who drop to 1-1, were ice-cold from the field all night, shooting a dreary 34% from the floor and barely over 10% from beyond the arc. They were led by Tyler Pleiss, 14 points, and Greg Sibenaller, 11.
Dordt, as mentioned, had half a dozen double-digit scorers: Aaron Van Vugt (14), Rees Beaver (12), David Den Herder (11), Steven Broersma (10), Josh Van Kekerix (10), and Ben Kiel (10). Den Herder led them with rebounds, grabbing seven, and Beaver led in assists with four.
Dordt will play their next three games away from Dewitt Gymnasium beginning with Mount Marty on November 28th.
Buena Vista takes on Central College on November 30th.
