(Rapid City, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team continued their season opening winning streak with an 86-74 win over Black Hills State in Rapid City, South Dakota in a classic hosted by South Dakota Tech. The Defenders had to overcome a second half deficit to get the win, their third of the week, to move their record to 10-0.
Dordt held a 43-40 lead at halftime but couldn't shake the Yellowjackets as both teams were shooting in the 65 percent neighborhood.
The Defenders lost Trevor Wolterstorff to foul trouble early in the half as the junior was tagged with his fourth foul at the 14:56 mark. Black Hills State was able to take a 55-50 lead moments later but the Defenders fought to stay close. The Yellowjackets wouldn't score again until the 3:31 mark. Dordt tied it on a Katje three and then a jumper from 17 feet made it 59-57 Dordt. The back breaker came when Kyle Lindbergh hit a three-point basket with the shot clock running down for a 62-57 lead and the run was on.
Dordt ended up scoring 17 points in a row to open up a 15 point lead and Dordt held on the rest of the way with a pair of Cliff Warner floaters in the lane sealing the win. Warner had a hot start the game converting for 13 points in the first ten minutes of the game.
