Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Doane

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team trailed once in an 88-68 defeat of the Doane Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa. Playing in front of their home crowd for the first time, the Defenders didn't disappoint in building a double digit halftime lead and fending the Tigers off the rest of the way.
Dordt scored first on a pair of Trevor Wolterstorff free throws at the 19:27 mark. Dordt's season scoring leader would be lost for a sizable portion of the first half when he picked up his second fould at the 19:11 mark of the first half. Doane faced an equally formidable challenge in losing their leading scorer at the 18:10 mark and Nick Reed left with a pair of fouls.
Doane could never get a run together and trailed by at least double figures the final 18:57 of the game and Defenders were able to preserve the win 88-68.
Dordt was led by Jordan Vogel's 22 points on 8-12 shooting. Trevor Wolterstorff managed to score 16 while grabbing nine rebounds--seven of them offensive and Chris Sievers scored 15 on 7-9 shooting. Austin Katje capped the double digit scoring with ten and five rebounds and Cliff Warner scored nine with four rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and two steals. Shawn Keizer and Tyler Wolterstorff came off the bench for eight and seven points respectively.
Kyle Lindbergh led Dordt's rebounding effort with 13 as Dordt enjoyed a 48-27 rebounding advantage. The Defenders converted 30-58 shots and were 23-31 from the free throw line while committing 17 turnovers.
Doane was 20-61 from the floor and 19-24 from the free throw line while converting 9-25 three-point shots. The Tigers were paced by Austin Benson with 15 points and Joshua Riser scored 11 while making 3-17 shots from the floor. Ty Headley came off the bench to score 11.
Dordt is 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the GPAC while Doane slips to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Dordt is scheduled to face Mount Marty on Tuesday night in Yankton, South Dakota while Doane will host Briar Cliff on Tuesday night.
