Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. William Penn
November 10, 2011
(Oskaloosa, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team went wire to wire with the lead in their 106-81 win over the William Penn Statesmen in a game played at Oskaloosa, Iowa on Thursday night. The win is the fourth for the Defenders in four starts on the road.
The Defenders seized a double digit lead on a dunk by Trevor Wolterstorff at the 15:32 mark and the lead just kept growing as the Defenders got up 58-40 at halftime.
"This was the first time our players have played in front of a sizable Dordt crowd and they responded with a great first half effort," said Dordt College coach Ross Douma. "We had great fan support and we fed off it."
William Penn scored the first two points of the second half to cut the lead to 16 but the Defenders went on a 9-0 run punctuated by a Trevor Wolterstorff dunk at the 18:00 mark for his 1000th career point. The lead ballooned all the way up to 33 points on a Matt Vande Kamp three-point shot at the 6:22 mark and the lead was never under 22 the rest of the game.
Dordt was 39-69 from the floor for 57 percent while converting 11-23 three-point shots. William Penn countered with 32-80 shooting for 40 percent. The Defenders outrebounded the hosts 49-37 and turned the ball over 16 times to 14 for the Statesmen.
Kyle Lindbergh scored 21 points and had seven rebounds while Cliff Warner added 16 points with six rebounds and seven assists. Trevor Wolterstorff also had 16 points with six rebounds and six assists and Austin Katje, in his first action of the year, scored 12 points.
"It was neat to see Trevor get his 1000th point," said Douma. "He'd be the first to say he's played with some great, unselfish teammates."
William Penn got 20 points each from Blake Walker and Alan Douglas.
Dordt is now 4-0 with games coming tomorrow against St. Xavier and Saturday against Trinity Christian. Both games are in Palos Heights, Illinois. William Penn falls to 2-2.
