Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Valley City State

(Valley City, North Dakota) A 15-2 run to start the second half allowed the Dordt College men's basketball team turn a 7 point halftime deficit into a 6 point lead and the Defenders never looked back in posting the 83-68 win over Valley City State this evening. With the victory, Dordt College gets the season off to a perfect 2-0 with both wins coming on the 2 game road trip to North Dakota.
Tops on the scoresheet for Dordt was Trevor Wolterstorff who led all scorers with 20 points on 7-11 from the field and 6-7 from the charity stripe. Jordan Vogel added 17 points for the Defenders and also pulled down 8 rebounds while Cliff Warner rounds out the double digit scorers for Dordt with 14, Tyler Wolterstorff and Kyle Lindbergh each contributed 9. Cliff Warner handed out 5 assists for Dordt and Kyle Lindbergh pulled down a game high 15 boards.
The Vikings' John Raquel, Joe Bateman and Sekani Milligen each finished with 12 points and Jason Perkins added 11 while Sylvester Walker led the Vikings with 7 rebounds.
Dordt College shot 53.85% for the game and scorched the nets in the second half, scoring 51 points on 64% shooting over the final 20 minutes. Valley City shot well in the first half (53.6%) but cooled off in the second to finish the game shooting 39% from the floor. The Vikings were an impressive 16 of 17 from the free throw line (94%) and Dordt shot 70% from the charity stripe (21-30). Dordt dominated the boards, yanking down 39 rebounds while the Vikings grabbed 27.
Next up for the Defender men's basketball team is Grace University as Dordt will travel to Omaha on Tuesday, November 8 for a scheduled 7 pm tip-off.
