Dordt College JV Men's Basketball vs. Mount Marty
January 19, 2011
(Sioux Center, Iowa) By: Sam Ekstrom (Dordt Class of 2014)
Another day, another win for the Dordt men’s JV squad. Once again, the Defenders overpowered their opponent, Mount Marty, in the first half to build an insurmountable lead, going on to win 67-46.
The first half couldn’t have gone much better for Coach Ben Van Wyk’s team. The Defenders used an array of 3-point shooting and in-out passing to rack up a 41-14 lead at the break. The aerial assault against the Lancer zone included 7 treys in the opening frame, 3 of them by Ben Sytsma. Once Mount Marty switched to a man-defense, Dordt transitioned to the inside game, getting 8 points from James Rylaarsdam before halftime.
Dordt relaxed a little bit in the second half, allowing more than twice what they did in the first. However, the Lancers never got within shouting distance of the Defenders, as Rylaarsdam continued pounding away in the post, notching 11 more points, giving him 19 on the afternoon.
Joining Rylaarsdam in double-figures were Ben Sytsma with 12 and Matt Vande Kamp with 10.
For Mount Marty, Zach Wevik led the way with 13 points, while Chevy Fischer and Jordan Knippling had 8 of their own.
Dordt enters their home finale on Monday with a 6-game winning streak. Their record stands at 9-6, 7-3 in the GPAC.
