Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Johnson and Wales

(Orange City, Iowa) Dordt College never trailed in its win over Johnson and Wales on Friday night at the Pizza Ranch Classic in Orange City, Iowa hosted by Northwestern College. The Defenders beat the Wildcats 80-67, withstanding several charges to earn their second win of the season.
Dordt led 24-8 with just under nine minutes left to go in the first half, getting a three-point basket by Austin Katje for the 16 point bulge. The Wildcats regrouped and cut the lead to 36-28 at the intermission.
Johnson and Wales continued the charge with six unanswered points in the second half and were down 36-34 before Dordt responded. An Austin Katje basket ended the run with Dordt maintaining a two point lead moments later when the teams exchanged baskets. The Wildcats kept it close and trailed 52-49 with just under ten minutes to go in the game but the Defenders responded with a nine point run and held the Denver, Colorado based school off by with enough made free throws to secure a 13 point win at 80-67.
Dordt was led by Trevor Wolterstorff's 22 points. Austin Katje added 14 while Jordan Vogel and Dustin Katje each had 12 points. Vogel also had a game high 13 rebounds as Dordt held a 45-35 rebounding advantage. Wolterstoff had eight rebounds and Chris Sievers grabbed six. Dustin Katje handed out a team high six assists.
Dordt converted 26-62 field goals and 21-30 free throws.
Johnson and Wales was topped by Nick Maly's 15 points and he grabbed seven rebounds.
Dordt will face Grace (Nebraska) at noon on Saturday, November 13 and stand 2-3 this season.
