(Sioux Center, Iowa) With a 68-54 win over Mount Marty tonight the Defender men move to 9-8 in convference play. After starting the GPAC season 1-7 the Dordt Defenders have gone 8-1 over their last nine conference games to get over the .500 mark.

On senior night in Sioux Center, the Defender men rattled off the first 10 points of the contest to take a 10-0 lead on the Lancers with the run being capped by a Jordan Vogel layup at 15:52. Over the next 7 and half minutes Mount Marty outscored Dordt 20 to 6 and the Lancers held a 4 point lead at 20-16 with 8:21 on the clock. Dordt proceeded to go on another 10 point run and a pair of Wolterstorff free throws gave the Defenders a 6 point lead at 26-20 with 2:40 to go in the half and Dordt took a 6 point lead into the break up 28-22.

The two teams went back in forth over the first 6 minutes of the second half with Dordt unable to open up a double digit lead on the Lancers while Mount Marty could get no closer than five. A 3 pointer by Brandon Oldenkamp at 13:40 gave the Defenders a 10 point cushion at 41-31 and pushed the advantage to 12 at 47-35 with 10 minutes to play. A 3 ball and then a jumper by Mount Marty made it 47-40 with 9:08 to play. A layup by Trevor Wolterstorff at 8:28 gave the Defenders an 11 point margin at 51-40 and Mount Marty would get no closer over the last 8 minutes while Dordt got up by as many as 16 on two occasions and posted their 9th conference win of the year with the win.

"We came out with a lot of emotion on senior night and got a quick 10 point lead and than we quit moving the ball well and allowed Mount Marty to creep back into the ball game," said Dordt Head Coach Ross Douma. "We did a nice job on the boards in the second half after being outrebounded in the first and Michael (Eekhoff) really pushed the ball up the floor well in the second half also. We have certainly had games this year where we played sharper but any time you can get a 14 point win in this conference, you'll take it."

Dordt senior point guard Michael Eekhoff lead all scorers with 16 points and also dished out 6 assists and pulled down 5 rebounds. Trevor Wolterstorff posted a double double with 15 points and a game high 10 rebounds. Jordan Vogel added 10 points and 7 rebounds and Logan Kingma also pulled down 7 boards to go along with his 8 points.

Mount Marty was lead by Justin Peters who had 12 points for the Lancers and Jared Wall had a team high 6 rebounds to go along with 6 points.

The Defender men outrebounded Mount Marty 41-31 on the night and the Lancers gave the ball up 21 times to 15 turnovers for Dordt. Both teams knocked in 5 three pointers and Dordt went 11 of 14 from the free throw line while the Lancers were 5 of 10.
