Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Central Baptist (Arkansas)

(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dordt turned away the Central Baptist (Arkansas) Mustangs tonight in the Defender Gold Classic by a final score of 90-62 in Sioux Center, Iowa Friday night. The Defenders raced to a 43-25 halftime lead and pulled away from an early charge in the second half to register the 28 point win.
Central Baptist scored the first two points of the game only to have Dordt take the lead on the ensuing possession on a three-pointer by Brandon Oldenkamp and the Defenders were off and running to 11 straight points. The Defenders extended the lead to double figures for good at the 13:02 mark and went in to the intermission with a 43-25 lead with Trevor Wolterstorff scoring 19 first half points.
Central Baptist scored six points in a row after a Brandon Oldenkamp basket to open the half and had the lead trimmed to 47-33 but an Oldenkamp three-pointer ended the run and the Defenders pushed the lead past 20 on another Oldenkamp bomb and never had their lead shrink under 16 in taking the win. Michael Eekhoff scored 16 of his game high 22 points on several drives in the lane in the second half.
Dordt had a 57-23 rebounding advantage and made 35-73 shots from the floor for 47.9 percent and 15-20 free throws. Central Baptist struggled on the long shot with just 7-26 on three pointers for 36.1 percent and they made 11-15 free throws.
Eekhoff had his 22 with seven assists and one steal along with six rebounds. Wolterstorff had 21 points and six rebounds and Oldenkamp threw in 15 withe five rebounds. Logan Kingma scored 11 and had four rebounds with Shawn Keizer leading all players with nine rebounds. Jordan Vogel came off the bench to score eight points and grab six rebounds with Brett Heidema grabbing eight rebounds.
The Mustangs got 17 points from Ryan Barnes but he was held to 12 points under his average. CJ McCoy added 11 and Rodderick Briggs scored 10. Central Baptist is now 6-2 for the season while Dordt improves to 6-1.
Dordt will face Bellevue at 4:00 on Saturday while Central Baptist takes on Northwestern at 2:00. Northwestern was an 81-73 winner over Bellevue on Friday night in the first game of the doubleheader.
