Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Wisconsin-Oshkosh--UW-Oshkosh Classic

(Oshkosh, Wisconsin) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team swept their play at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Holiday Classic with a 68-64 win over the host school Titans. The win did not come without its' tense moments.
Dordt built an early lead of 10-4 with ten unanswered points with Brandon Oldenkamp capping the run with a lay-up at the 13:49 mark. Oshkosh cut the lead to three before Dordt built up some breathing room with a 31-22 lead on a pair of free throws by Chris Van Roekel with 2:02 remaining. Dordt went silent on offense for the final two minutes thoruh and the Titans got two three-pointers by reserve Cory Wittwer to make it 31-28 at halftime.
Logan Kingma was stymied in the first half with just four points but balance was the rule for the rest of the team with Jeremy Zeutenhorst, Brett Heidema and Brandon Oldenkamp getting five points each.
Dordt came out firing in the second half with Kingma hitting for seven points and Mark Rowenhorst had five as Dordt got up 41-30 with 16:39 left in the game.
Oshkosh wouldn't fade, though, and cut the lead down to three at the 5:28 mark with a DJ Marsh free throw and a John Flanigan short shot made it 56-55.
The Defenders got a pair of free throws by Michael Eekhoff to go up 60-55 and a Kingma lay up was good for a 62-57 lead with 2:12 left. The hosts came back to tie it at 64-64 with :40 left on a pair of free throws by Miller. Dordt never relinquished the lead though as Michael Eekhoff hit a fall away, pull up jumper from the left side of the lane from 12 feet out with :06 left. After a timeout Oshkosh tried to throw the inbounds pass past midcourt and Logan Kingma came up with a steal and Michael Eekhoff made two free throws to seal the win with :03 left.
Dordt was 26-55 from the floor for 47.3 percent and 5-11 on three-pointers. Oshkosh was 20-46 and 7-18 on threes for 43.5 percent and 38.9 percent. Dordt won the rebounding battle 33-26 and turned the ball over 10 times to 12 for the Titans.
Dordt's Logan Kingma had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Eekhoff had 13 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Dordt had nine steals as a team. Brandon Oldenkamp had nine points and Mark Rowenhorst had eight with four assists and two steals and one blocked shot.
Oshkosh was led by DJ Marsh with 26 and Matt Miller had 20. Dane Seckar-Anderson, the Titans' leading scorer at 19 points per game, was limited to six points on 1-8 shooting. Marsh had 13 rebounds to top all players.
Dordt is 6-2 heading into play on Wednesday against Dakota Wesleyan in Sioux Center, Iowa for GPAC play while Oshkosh falls to 2-3.
