Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Jamestown

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College men's basketball team made it a sweep of a pair of North Dakota Schools on Saturday with a 66-54 win over the Jamestown Jimmies in non-conference basketball at the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders used a stifling defense in the first half to springboard to the twelve point win that turned into a foul shooting affair in the second half.
Dordt limited the visitors wot five points in the first 9:06 and took a double digit lead on a lay up by Carlie Landegent to make it 16-5 at the 11:23 mark. Dordt maintained that double digit lead the rest of the half and was up 34-18 when Landegent scored his second field goal of the game with :12 remaining in the first half.
Dordt limited the Jimmies to 4-19 shooting in the first half. Jamestown did show more life in the second half, trimming the lead to 40-30 with a 12-6 run to start the second half but a Brandon Oldenkamp three-pointer made it 43-30 with 13:33 left in the game. Dordt managed to keep the lead at double digits until the 7:48 mark but weathered teh run and got the lead back to ten on a Mark Rowenhorst free throw with 6:43 and the lead was under ten just two more times with Dordt holding a 58-50 lead at the 2:36 mark, the last time Jamestown had it to single digits. A three-pointer by Rowenhorst at the 2:01 mark made the Defenders comfortable and they rolled in with a 66-54 win.
Dordt was led by four players in double figures with Rowenhorst making 14 and Logan Kingma 13 with six rebounds. Michael Eekhoff had 11 points and three assists while Brandon Oldenkamp had 11 points, ten rebounds and two steals.
Dordt made 21-52 shots and was 19-27 on free throws. Jamestown made 13-39 shots and was 24-37 from the free throw line. Jamestown had the rebounding advantage with a 39-30 edge.
The Jimmies were led by John Peabody with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Evan Savageau had 15 points.
Dordt is 2-1 and Jamestown is now 3-1. Dordt travels to Grand View on Wednesday for a 7:30 contest in Des Moines, Iowa.
