(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team survived a 76-74 scare at the University of Sioux Falls Cougars on Saturday in Great Plains Athletic Conference play. The Defenders led most of the game but needed a late steal by Scott Van Zanten to seal the win and the regular season sweep against the Cougars.

Dordt extended the lead to 29-14 on a Logan Kingma three-pointer but the Cougars would own the final 6:57 of the first half with Dordt clinging to a 38-35 halftime edge.
Sioux Falls scored the first two points of the second half but the Dordt defense would stifle the Cougars for the next ten minutes to a total of just five second half points. The Cougars would make up for that total though with 34 points in the final ten minutes. Dordt was able to fend off each of Sioux Falls' advances with Mark Rowenhorst making a pair of free throws down the stretch and Logan Kingma made one of two but the win wasn't secured until Sioux Falls lost the ball to Van Zanten after a pair of missed free throws by Dordt with :05 remaining.
