Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Nebraska Christian
November 10, 2006
(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team rolled to a 109-32 win over Nebraska Christian on Friday night in the Papa John's/Downtown Chiropractic Classic hosted by the University of Sioux Falls on Friday night. The Defenders scored the first nine points of the game and were 24-4 early. Ten minutes into the game the Defenders had stretched the lead to 28-8 and were up 54-15 at intermission. The Parsons never got going, trailing 78-26 with ten minutes remaining and losing by the eventual record-setting difference of 77 points.
Dordt was led by Eric Van Maanen's career high 29 points. The Junior from Doon, Iowa converted 12-16 shots from the floor including 3-3 on three-pointers. Russ Griese came off the bench to score 17 and grab seven rebounds and Brian Eekhoff, a match-up problem for the much smaller Nebraska Christian team, scored 16 while going 8-9 from the floor. Scott van Zanten rounded out double-digit scoring with 11. The Defenders snared 55 rebounds to 25 for the Parsons with Eekhoff leading the way with nine. Derek Keizer handed out a game high nine assists. All twelve Dordt College players in uniform scored at least one bucket.
Nebraska Christian was led by Tyler Hahn's eight points. Nebraska Christian made just 13-56 shots from the floor and committed 28 turnovers.
The game set two new Dordt College records. The 32 points allowed broke the old record of 37 and the margin of victory of 77 points shattered the old mark of 66. Both previous marks were set on February 7, 1964 in a 103-37 win by Dordt College, over, oddly enough, Nebraska Christian.
Dordt College will play Black Hills State on Saturday afternoon at 4:00. The Yellow Jackets lost by two Friday night on a buzzer beater by Sioux Falls.
