Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Dana

(Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt College Defenders rode a big first half to a 77-68 win over the Dana Vikings in men's Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball game.
The Defenders raced to a 28-9 advantage with a 13-0 run over a four minute stretch and took a 42-23 lead into the half with Brian Eekhoff scoring 15 first half points.
Dana came out in the second half and put the pressure on, cutting the lead to 53-48 with 8:35 left on a Eric Massen basket. Dordt withstood the first charge only to have Dana cut the lead to 60-55 with 4:25 left. A three-pointer by Mark Rowenhorst gave Dordt an eight point lead and the margin was never smaller than seven on the way to the nine point 77-68 win.
Dordt made 27-59 shots for 45.8 percent and were 20-28 from the free throw line. Dana was 23-71 from the floor for 32.4 percent and converted 17-20 free throws. Dordt was led by Brian Eekhoff's 26 points on 9-13 shooting while Scott Van Zanten added 10 and Chad Huenink came off the bench for 10. Mark Rowenhorst squeezed out eight points and Logan Kingma seven. Eekhoff grabbed eight rebounds as Dordt was outrebounded 45-41. Van Zanten also had six and Rowenhorst had three steals with Derek Keizer dishing out four assists.
Dana got 14 each from Ted Cox and Jon Person. Eric Maassen had a game high 14 rebounds.
Dordt will host a first round tournament game on Tuesday night against a Mount Marty.
