(Lincoln, Nebraska) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team earned their seventh win of the conference season with an 83-71 victory over the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolvers on Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Defenders raced to a 16-2 lead with six different players scoring in the first 7:02. The Defenders continued to increase the lead, getting it above 20 and took a 42-23 lead at halftime.
Wesleyan was unable to seriously slice into the lead in the second half. Each time the hosts cut the lead the Defenders had an answer, holding a 79-57 lead on a Mark Rowenhorst basket with 3:46 left in the contest. Wesleyan was able to force some late turnovers but the difference was too much.
Brian Eekhoff had 14 points, making 5-7 field goals. Logan Kingma converted for 14 points and was 5-9 from the floor. Mark Rowenhorst scored 11 off the bench making 3-3 field goals--one of them a three-pointer and 4-4 on free throws. Scott Van Zanten had nine points and a team high nine rebounds while Chad Huenink came off the bench for eight points on 3-5 field goals. Eric Van Maanen added seven points on 3-5 shooting and went over 500 points for his career. Dordt held a 32-21 rebounding edge and Derek Keizer handed out a pair of assists and has 464 for his career and is five short of the career record.
Wesleyan was paced by Dylan Aylward with 21 points.
Dordt is now 14-8 overall and 7-4 in the league while Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 5-13 and 2-9.
