Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Sioux Falls

(Sioux Falls, South Dakota) The #2 ranked Sioux Falls Cougars used an eight point run in the first half of their game with the Dordt College Defenders to springboard them to an 83-71 win in Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball game.

The Defenders led early, taking a 6-2 lead on a basket by Logan Kingma but the hosts took the lead at 9-8 on an Eric Depue basket with 14:09 left in the half. Dordt fought back to tie the game at 14-14 wtih 11:42 left on a Chad Huenink basket. The Cougars countered with a three-pointer by Jesse Huser followed by a two-point basket and then another Huser three-pointer, one of four three-pointers Huser would hit in the first half. Dordt trimmed the lead to 24-20 on an Eric Van Maanen lay-up with 8:33 left only to see the Cougars extend the lead to 12 at halftime, 38-26.

The Defenders hung around for much of the second half, whittling the lead down to nine at the 7:29 mark on a Kingma basket, but could get no closer than ten after that, losing by the 83-71 count.

The Defenders made 28-57 shots for 49.1 percent and were 5-16 on three pointers. The Cougars were 28-53 for 52.8 percent and 7-19 on three-pointers. The Cougars were lethal from the free throw line where they made 20-22. Dordt got to the charity stripe 14 times, converting 10.

Eric Van Maanen led Dordt, making 8-10 shots, while Kingma had 13 and Scott Van Zanten 10 with five rebounds. Chad Huenink came off the bench to score nine points on 3-3 shooting from the floor and 3-3 free throw shooting. Brian Eekhoff had seven poitns and five rebounds and Russ Griese made two three-point shots. Mark Rowenhorst had three assists and Derek Keizer two.

Sioux Falls was paced by Jesse Huser's 21 points while Ryan Millsap added 19 and Dylan Kvaale 12.

The Defenders are now 5-3 in the league and 12-7 overall while the Cougars are 18-1 overall and are alone atop the GPAC standing at 8-1.
