Dordt College Men's Basketball vs. Graceland

(Lamoni, Iowa) The Dordt College Defender men's basketball team stumbled in the first half against Graceland on Thursday night in a non-conference game at Lamoni, Iowa and paid for it with a loss by a final count of 75-68.
The Defender held one lead at 3-2 on a three pointer by Eric Van Maanen as the hosts pulled in front for good on the next possession on a Aundrae Williams basket. A Mark Rowenhorst lay-up cut the lead down to 19-14 with 12:01 left in the half but a 14-0 run by the Yellow Jackets gave them their biggest lead of the game with 6:53 left in the half at 33-14. A pair of Brian Eekhoff free throws snapped the run but the damage was done.
Dordt trailed 40-27 at halftime and steadily worked their way back into the game, steadily trimming the lead down. A Chad Huenink basket with 11:49 left in the game made it a single-digit game for the first time since the first half at 53-45. The Defenders eventually wittled the lead down to three with 4:57 left in the game on a pair of Scott Van Zanten free throws and got as close as 65-63 on a tip-in by Van Zante with 2:36 left. Three straight baskets by Graceland put Dordt on their heels and they were never able to recover, losing by the final seven point margin.
Dordt was 21-50 from the floor and 3-13 on three-pointers while making 23-29 free throws. Graceland made 24-46 shots for 52.2 percent with 3-6 three-pointers and 24-36 free throws with 30 of those free throw attempts coming in the second half.
Dordt wsaa led by Van Zanten and Eric Van Maanen with 12 points each while Eekhoff had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Huenink contributed 10 points while making 4-5 field goals. Kris Vander Kooy contributed seven.
Graceland was led by Chase Moore with 18 points and Aundrae Williams knocked down 14. Graceland held the edg on the glass 33-28 with Andrew Williams snaring seven.
Dordt is 11-3 while Graceland is now 2-8 with both of those wins coming over GPAC teams, their other win was a decision over Doane College in November.
Dordt will travel to Oakland, California to play Holy Names and Dominican in a classic on December 29 and 30.
